Short answer: sign in to the official account, remove any uploads you do not want left online, review profile and message data, then look for the account-deletion control in account or privacy settings. Save the confirmation. If the control is unavailable, contact the service through its official support or privacy channel and make a clear written request.
Before deleting the account
- Confirm that you are signed in to the correct account.
- Save anything you are entitled to keep and will need later.
- Record gallery URLs or post identifiers that may need a separate removal request.
- Remove personal details from the profile where the service allows it.
- Delete uploads individually if account deletion does not clearly promise to remove them.
- Do not share your password with anyone offering to delete the account for you.
Account-deletion steps
- Open the official service by typing its address yourself or using a trusted bookmark.
- Sign in and open the account, profile, privacy or settings area.
- Look for wording such as delete account, close account or remove profile.
- Read what will happen to uploads, comments, messages and public profile information.
- Complete any password or email confirmation requested by the official service.
- Save the confirmation email, reference number or screenshot.
- After the stated processing period, check the public profile URL while signed out.
If you cannot sign in, use the official password-recovery process first. Avoid third-party recovery services and do not enter credentials on a lookalike domain.
If the delete option is missing
Use the service’s official contact or privacy route. Include the account username, the email associated with it, the specific data or uploads concerned, and the action you want. Do not send more identity information than the service reasonably needs to verify the request.
UK right to erasure
People in the UK can ask an organisation to erase personal data in certain circumstances. The right is not absolute: an organisation may retain some information when it has a lawful reason, such as legal claims, fraud prevention or another statutory obligation. Simple request template
Subject: Request to delete my account and personal data
I am requesting closure of the account associated with [username/email]. Please erase personal data that is no longer required and remove the public profile and the following uploads or URLs: [list]. Please confirm what has been deleted, what must be retained, the reason for any retention, and when the process is complete.
Send the request only to a contact method published by the official service. Keep a dated copy and any response.
Uploads, copies and search results
Closing an account may not instantly remove cached search results, copies shared by other users, quoted comments or material stored for legal reasons. Ask the service to remove the source page first. Search engines normally update after they recrawl a changed or deleted page; removing a search result alone does not remove the source.
If intimate content was shared without consent, use the platform’s reporting route and seek specialist or law-enforcement help where appropriate. Do not pay an unknown person who promises guaranteed removal.
After deletion
- Change the password anywhere else it was reused.
- Remove saved credentials from shared browsers.
- Review connected email accounts for forwarding rules or unfamiliar sessions.
- Keep the deletion confirmation and reference number.
- Check the former public profile and key URLs after the processing period.
- If the service does not respond, review the ICO guidance on raising a concern.
